Thank you!!

First and foremost I would like to thank all of you who have purchased a T-shirt, or Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep or both of them.  Thank you all for taking the initiative to address the importance of mental health and reducing the stigma. As I am preparing to head home this weekend for my first two events promoting my book, I had to take a moment and reflect on the past month I have sold over 200 hundred books, and that isn’t counting numbers from Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  I’ve had to reorder three shipments of the t-shirt line.  I’ve been featured on Black Men in Social Work and Dr. Keith Harley site.

I am dedicated to serving, educating, and training the most vulnerable populations.  I am also committed to making the most enriching learning experiences for children, and families and hope you enjoyed reading the book as I did writing the book.  A great way to overcome the stigma is improving people’s attitude towards mental health and increasing the willingness to talk about our mental health struggles.

Your reviews are essential to me because they help as I am working on the next books in the series.  They also help to make sure I am capturing things you would like for me to discuss in regards of mental health.  So please take a moment to leave a review. I have enjoyed reading your reviews. A few reviews below:

As a mother of four and a service member, I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with PTSD or any mental illness. Michael has shared some excellent information for parents and children. I read this book twice, first by myself and then to my two sons. As kids growing up in a dual military home, they have endured deployments and long days with at least one parent gone. Always tell your children you love them even when you have a terrible day it is essential for them to know they are loved. Thank you, Mike, for sharing this story, and I hope it helps anyone struggling with PTSD or any other mental illness. It is okay to ask for help and accept it. I will now be teaching my kids that same bedtime prayer~Anonymous

Hi Mike,  Your book helped me release all the pain I was caring in my heart for over 40 years about my father. You are a Godsend, and with your writing and counseling, I know you have made a difference in family lives. You help changed mine~Anonymous

Dr. Gatson’s use of a children’s book to tackle such a tough topic is nothing short of extraordinary! Mental health issues are something that all culture’s stigmatize and many individual’s struggles with finding a way to express their thoughts and feelings and the need to seek help. Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep opens the door and allows for the topic to be discussed with children at a level in which they understand, and at a pace, the parent can effectively cope. This book is thought provoking and allows the opportunity for meaningful discourse as well as a coping mechanism for those who may not have the words to express their thoughts. This will be a book that I use in my practice with veterans and civilians alike! Thanks, Dr. Doobie and I can’t wait for the next edition~Anonymous

If you have any questions concerning the book or t-shirts, please go to my website www.michaelgatson.com and leave me a message. Again, thank you for your purchase and support.  In celebration of Black History Month, I am offering a discount on a T-shirt, and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. Place your T-shirt and include the autographed book in the shopping cart and use the discount code Black History in the discount box to receive both of them for $35.00 (including shipping). Please make sure you indicate your size and the person you want the book signed to in the order notes.

Thank you!

January 2019 Review

Here’s what happened in January:

Don’t miss a thing—-January in review!

This month I received my books in print from my publishing company, and a week later I released Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep to the public. The eBooks should be ready in about three weeks.  I’ve had to reorder three shipments of the t-shirt line.

Your feedback and reviews have been fantastic. Most importantly the message has been received that it is okay to take care of your mental health

One great way to overcome the stigma is by acknowledging the importance of our mental health and well-being. A great way to overcome the stigma is improving people’s attitude towards mental health and increasing the willingness to talk about our mental health struggles. Also, we are MaGnets, and it’s important to surround yourself with people who make me better. Your circle should want to see you win, pushing you every day, and encouraging your growth. In celebration of Black History Month, I am offering a discount on a T-shirt, and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. Place your T-shirt and include the autographed book in the shopping cart and use the discount code BlackHistory in the discount box to receive both of them for $35.00 (including shipping). Please make sure you indicate your size and the person you want the book signed to in the order notes. Thank you!

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is essential at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Everyone experiences highs and lows throughout their lives and finding a supportive mental health professional to help manage those times is essential. One in every four people globally has some of the different types of mental illness at some point in their life. We seek medical attention and treatment for any form of physical illness or disease, but why do we neglect mental illness?

Society is beginning to recognize the importance of talking openly about mental health and how stigma can affect individuals. Having this critical conversation about mental health is vital to decreasing this stigma and people to get access to resources that are needed. We have a responsibility to eliminate the stigma within our community associated with mental health.

Special thanks to my tribe with helping to educate everyone about the importance of addressing your mental health and reducing the stigma. Check out the link below to purchase your t-shirt and join the movement to educate people about the importance of treating your mental health. https://michaelgatson.com/store/

The Don’t Label Me shirt: Represents Don’t Label Me because I have decided to take care of my mental health. One great way to overcome the stigma is by acknowledging the importance of our mental health and well-being improving people’s attitude towards mental health and increase the willingness to talk about our mental health struggles with a licensed therapist.

The MaGnet shirt: Represents I have a purpose in this life. I am surrounding myself by those who make me better. I am a magnet for joy, love, and abundance. I am enough. Who are you attracting? Who is in your circle? Because your circle should want to see, you win. Your circle should be pushing you every day. Your circle should encourage your growth.

Therapist Notes: Take the first step towards eliminating the stigma and improving yourself by just talking to one person that you trust.  If the problem persists, start with your primary care physician and ask for a referral. Remember, mental illness is common and can be treated, and do not let the stigma stop you from getting and retaining your treatment. Success is kind of like The Dark: Nothing to be afraid of, but still a common fear. Investing in yourself is important because you get for free what everyone else is struggling for: love, happiness, acceptance, & energy. Permanence can only come eternally. Defining what you need externally to stay happy creates limitations, restricting your pleasure to those conditions. When you know your vision, nothing can stop you.

Greetings,

I want to thank all of you for your support and joining the newsletter. It’s a new year, a new beginning, a time to reach new heights, new levels of prosperity and purpose. But first, have you taken some time to breathe and reflect? Take a few moments in the morning to sit quietly before moving into the day’s activity. This is your time for setting the personal agenda for the day or week, in a state of quiet attention.

I have some exciting things I would like to share with you first. I have received numerous emails from family and friends who are overseas, and live on the west coast and will not be able to make it to the Book Launch on March 23rd in D.C. or my upcoming events in North Louisiana. I am working on adding autographed books to my online store. The price of the autographed book will be $20. I am also going to add a bundle package with an autographed book and a T-shirt for $35. When you place the order, please make sure you include in the order noted who you would like for me to address the book to when I am signing the book. Also, make sure you include your T-shirt size in the order notes as well.

2018: Time of reflection

The end of the year is typically a time of reflection. This year has been all about stepping outside my comfort zones and allowing myself to become uncomfortable. It’s been a fantastic year. If my book sells like my t-shirts, I will be on the best seller list for 2019. Thank you all for the love and support!

It’s important to surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself. There is so much yet undiscovered in each of us so do not be afraid to leave your comfort zone. Greatness awaits in 2019!

Therapist note: The new year means nothing if you’re still in love with your comfort zone. Start where you are and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found along the journey we call life. I am learning that success and happiness are not the values you pursue; they are values you develop.

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude. When it’s recognition that makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for the future. Thank you for supporting my dreams. Let’s make a choice to address our mental health, get mentally fit, and reduce the stigma. Happy New Year!
